At the end of the thirties, in the continuous variation of the regulations, Alfa Romeo studied a new car capable of participating in the Sport races and also in those under the regulations of the international Formula One, which allowed supercharged cars up to 3 liters and atmospheric supply up to 4.5 liters. The chassis chosen was that of the 8C 2900, but the old 8-cylinder in-line was replaced by the modern 4495cc V12 designed by Vittorio Jano for the Type C 12C. The four examples built were equipped with a spyder body made by Touring. The 412 achieved several important successes before the world war. After the war, a model was sold to the Swiss driver Willy Daetwyler who won several races, including the Bern GP in 1948.
