Having gathered enough experience with the 155 GTA (model SE051), Alfa Corse took up the SE052 project for the DTM. The Alfa Romeo 155 DTM debuted in the 1993 season and even a little surprisingly proved to be able to beat Mercedes' competition. The regulation of the DTM was based on that of Group A but with several more concessions. The designers therefore had a clearer field, which meant greater technical and economic commitment. At the end of the season came the championship win with Larini, who also took away the satisfaction of excelling at the Nurbugring, at the home of the DTM specialists.
