In 1955 the Opel Kapitan model that had entered production in November 1953 was subject to a restyling that simplified the design of the grille and changed some side decorations. The engine remained the 2473cc 6-cylinder in-line, boosted from 68 to 75 horsepower. From May 1957 an L (Lusso) version was also available, with better finishes and equipment. Production of this version of the Kapitan ceased in 1958 when the Kapitan P model was introduced.
