The first series of the Maserati sedan, christened Quattroporte, was introduced in 1963. The rather original bodywork was designed by Frua. The engine was initially a 4136cc V8 credited with around 260 horsepower. The transmission could be manual (ZF) or automatic (Borg-Warner). In 1967, a 4.7-liter 290-horsepower engine was adopted. The Maserati Quattroporte first series was produced in 679 units until 1970.
