It was the car with which Nino Farina won the first Formula 1 world title in 1950. The Alfa Romeo 158 has left an indelible mark in racing history. Also because, with the super sports car of the “Biscione”, the Italian driver also obtained the victory in the first Grand Prix valid for the World Championship, on May 13 of that same year, on the English circuit of Silverstone. In the same season, Farina also won another race on the Bremgarten track (in Switzerland), where two years earlier Achille Varzi had lost his life at the wheel of the same car. A prelude to the triumph of Monza, however obtained with the debutant "159", who crowned him definitively champion. The Alfa Romeo 158 used by Farina was equipped with a 1500 cm³ volumetric compressor engine, eight cylinders in a longitudinal line, capable of developing a power of 350 hp. The steel frame with parallel side members was equipped with independent front and rear suspensions, with double longitudinal arms on the front and oblique in the rear, for a total weight of 700 kg and a wheelbase of 2505 mm. The gearbox was a 4-speed manual and drum-type brakes.
