The Moskvitch 412 went into production in 1969, alongside the 408. The main mechanical change was the adoption of a new 1478cc four-cylinder engine with five bench supports that replaced the old 4-cylinder mounted on the 407 and 408, still of Opel derivation. The brakes were power assisted. The car remained in production until 1975. The break variant was known as the 427.
