In the nineties, in its pursuit of new markets, Dacia conceived in record time a specific model for China, a country where at the time few manufacturers were foreigners were active. The 1309 was destined to be a winning challenge for Dacia. It was a sort of pick-up but with the body of the break 1310. The engine was 4-cylinder 1397cc with carburetors of the 1310. The car was available starting from 1992, and almost 50,000 units were built until 1997: the 1309 therefore allowed Dacia to find an additional outlet for the 1310 with limited investments, developing its sales outside Romania.
