When the Karif began to be marketed, yet another change of hands was being prepared for Maserati, this time to Fiat. The Karif, which once again took its name from an African wind, was yet another development in the Biturbo's long genealogy. Equipped with the 2790cc V6, it remained in production from 1988 to 1991 with 221 units built. In the year of presentation of Karif, Alejandro De Tomaso had to conclude a financial, industrial and commercial collaboration agreement with the Fiat Group, to which he sold 49% of the share capital.
