The 315S was one of the Ferrari weapons for the 1957 world sportscar championship. To the updated 290MM, renamed 290S, the Maranello team joined a car with a 3.8-liter 12-cylinder engine delivering 360 horsepower (a 4-liter engine was also developed for the 335S). The 315S clinched a victory in the Mille Miglia with Taruffi as the main result, but was often stopped by reliability problems. The 315S nevertheless gave a decisive contribution to the conquest of the 1957 world sportscar title.
