The 968 was the extreme development of that rear-engined and central transmission Porsche line that began with the 924 and 928 models and continued with the 944. The 968, presented in 1992, remained in production for two years, manufactured not in the Audi plants in Neckarsulm as had happened for 924 and 944, but in Zuffenhausen, where however the production capacity was quite limited. The 968 went out of production because Porsche commercial strategies were changing, in favor of very different models such as the Boxster. The 968, which basically had a 240-liter 3-liter engine, had several versions and a double coupé/cabriolet configuration.
