After the presentation of the Lamborghini 350 GT at the 1964 Geneva Motor Show, it was Zagato who began the series of stylistic interpretations based on the new Italian car. The two examples of the 3500 GTZ from 1965 wanted to follow the style of the Giulia TZ and TZ2. The project required the restoration of the old wheelbase (10 cm less than that of the 350 GT) to obtain better handling. But this time the criticisms were not too favourable: the style of the car was not considered original, between the unharmonious tail area and a front that recalled the Ferrari 275 GTB. The production, therefore, did not go beyond the first two exemplars.
