This new Fairlane, to which Ford gave the name Torino, arrived on the market in April 1968. If the brand had gained prestige in the pony sector with the Mustang, it still had to conquer the muscle car segment, competing with the Chevelle SS 396, the Pontiac GTO, Dodge and Plymouth Hemi. At the base of the Torino range was a 200ci 115 horsepower 6-cylinder, followed by a 325 horsepower V8 302. Even more extreme was the version with the V8 427, soon replaced by the 335 horsepower V8 428 Cobra.
