Appearing at the Detroit Motor Show in January 1992, the Grand Cherokee ZJ officially took the place of the Wagoneer and derived from the crankcase of the Cherokee XJ. There were many engines: in Europe the 4-liter V6 identical to that of the Cherokee and the 5.2-liter V8 which developed 215 horsepower and which offered a wide choice of fittings were imported into Europe: Laredo, Laredo Luxe, Limited ... In March 1996 a 115 horsepower 2.5-liter diesel engine was introduced. Slight restyling in November 1996 and November 1997 the 5.9-liter 237 horsepower V8 engine was presented. In April 1999 the Cherokee ZJ gave way to its successor.
