In spring 2006 a new version of the SLR was presented under the name of the SLR 722-edition. This name paid homage to the race number of the Mercedes 300 SLR at the wheel of which Stirling Moss won the 1955 Mille Miglia. This limited edition of the SLR was even more powerful than the model from which it was derived. And unlike the already known SLR, it was a spyder. Like the coupe, the SLR Roadster was built in Woking (England) at McLaren.
