The Biturbo Spyder, presented in 1985, was the first Maserati open since the days of the Ghibli (1969-1972). Designed by Zagato, it had a shorter wheelbase than the Biturbo Coupé and followed the aesthetic and mechanical evolution of the model from which it derived. In 1990 there was a restyling. The basic version had the 1996cc engine, but 2491cc and 2790cc engines were marketed. Produced over the span of a decade until 1994, the Spyder was built in 3076 units.
