The sporty version of the Polo had to wait until 1988 in order not to compete with the Golf GTI. A unique case in its class, the Polo G40 used a supercharger to increase power. The 1272cc engine thus reached 115 horsepower, for a total weight of the car of only 830 kg. The first version of the G40 was marketed in 1500 copies until 1989; the G40 returned with some transformations in mid-1991, with the same engine made even more reliable. In 1994 a third purple series, called Genesis was produced in only 265 units.
