The XJ40, introduced in 1986, was the first truly new XJ since 1968. Despite its similarity to previous XJs, no body parts remained the same. The 6-cylinder XK engines had been replaced with the new all-aluminum AJs. Initially, the displacements were 2.9 and 3.6 liters. The more refined versions were marked with the name Daimler. In 1990, new engines were introduced (3.2 and 4 liters) and in 1993 Jaguar presented the S series sports cars. In 1993 the XJ12 with a 318 horsepower 6-liter engine was presented. The XJ40 went out of production in 1994.
