In 1954 Jean Rédélé completed the project of what would become the first Alpine (the name celebrated the victory of Rédélé himself at the Coupe des Alpes). The A106, also known as the Mille Miles, was based on the Renault 4CV, but had a plastic body, developed in collaboration with the Chappe brothers from Saint-Maur. The A106 quickly achieved many victories in the class up to 750cc, including that of the Mille Miglia in 1956. Thanks to the A106, Rédélé was able to continue the development of its range, presenting in January 1957 the A108, which already prefigured the A110. Up to January 1960, around 650 units of the A106 were built.
