After the 1994 season, Williams extended their deal with Renault until 1997. Damon Hill and David Coulthard were confirmed. The new Renault V10 engine proved to be competitive and the Williams FW17 was a good car, although not up to par with the Benetton, who dominated the championship with Schumacher. An updated version, the FW17B, was available starting with the Portuguese GP. Damon Hill finished second in the drivers' championship, with four wins (Argentina, San Marino, Hungary, Australia), while Coulthard finished third, winning in Portugal.
