Between 1986 and 1993, Porsche production suffered a significant decline. It was in 1993 that the German house presented a concept car, called Boxster (contraction of Boxer with Roadster). Production was approved and the car came out in 1997. It was a car that cost half the price of the 911, and shared many parts with the 911 model 996. The first generation Boxster (model 986) remained in production until 2004, in the standard 2500cc (204 hp) version and in the brighter S configuration, with the 3.2 252 hp engine, launched in 2000.
