Introduced in 1950, the Prairie was described in the Renault advertisement as "the greatest of family cars". In fact, the first born in the Colorale range, it offered a large interior space for seven people. The bodywork was made by Chausson and the rather anemic but thirsty 85HP engine was replaced in 1952 by a 2-liter unit derived from the Fregate. The Prairie was produced until 1957.
