The first Eagle, the single-seater of the AAR team of Dan Gurney and Carroll Shelby was designed by Len Terry for use in F1 and in the USAC category. Much like the Lotus 38, the Eagle was initially equipped with the 2750cc Coventry Climax FPF engine while waiting for the 3 liter Gurney-Weslake V12 to be ready. The car was quite competitive, and Gurney won the 1967 Race of Champions and the Belgian GP. A development was conducted in 1968 and a totally new second version was started by Tony Southgate for 1969 but the project was never completed. The last Eagle to be entered in a GP was the one, powered by FPF Climax, driven by Al Pease in Canada in 1969. Bob Bondurant, Ritchie Ginther, Dan Gurney, Bruce McLaren, Al Pease and Ludovico Scarfiotti drove the F.1 Eagles.
