For 1984 the Euroracing Alfa Romeo Team abandoned the Marlboro sponsor to switch to Benetton. The 184T of Marmiroli, entrusted to Riccardo Patrese and Eddie Cheever, proved to be anything but competitive, and during the season the team was completely lost. Engineer Carlo Chiti was replaced during the summer by Giovanni Tonti, but the season ended with very meager results, with a few exceptions such as Patrese's third place in Monza. The 184T was also seen again in the middle of the 1985 season, when the 185T, even worse than the previous model, was replaced by an evolution of the 1984 car.
