In November 1979 Porsche decided to enter a brand new car in the 1980 CART series with the main aim of racing at the Indianapolis 500. The initiative involved the Hawaiian driver Danny Ongais and the American team Interscope. Some insurmountable disputes over the engine's supercharging pressure put an early end to the project and the car never raced.
