In 1991 Ayrton Senna won his third and last Formula 1 world title. At the wheel of the McLaren MP4-6 the Brazilian scored seven wins out of 16 Grand Prix races, eight pole positions and 12 podiums in total. Among these, Suzuka's second place, which allowed him to clinch the championship one race earlier, leaving his faithful teammate Gerhard Berger the satisfaction of being the first to cross the finish line. The MP4-6 therefore proved to be a winning single-seater, entering right into the legend. Designed by Neil Oatley and Henri Durand (who specifically dealt with the aerodynamics), this car had a monocoque carbon fiber and kevlar chassis, with a wheelbase of 2,974 mm and a weight of 508 kg. Equipped with front and rear double trapeze push-rod suspensions and ventilated carbon and ceramic disc brakes, it was equipped with Goodyear tires. It was driven by a 60 ° V 12-cylinder longitudinal rear Honda engine, with a displacement of 3,497 cm3 and a power of 735 hp at 13,500 rpm. The gearbox was a 6-speed sequential manual plus reverse. In the first two Grand Prix of 1992 (South Africa and Mexico) an advanced version MP4-6B was used by Senna and Berger.
