In 1990 Discovery joined the Land Rover family, alongside the Range Rover and models 90, 110 and 127. To avoid possible confusion between the types, Land Rover introduced the name Defender. In this way the 127 becomes 130 and the most radical change is the introduction of a 2500cc Turbodiesel engine. This generation of the Defender remained in production until 2016.
