In the early 1950s, Volvo wanted to develop a car to replace the PV444. After a design by Michelotti not accepted by the manufacturer, the Swedish house developed an interior project which was called P179. However, it was only a prototype, although perfectly complete, but the future 144 did not benefit from the concepts that emerged with the P179.
