It was with the experimental Superfast II coupé that Pininfarina gave the road Ferrari GTs a radically new appearance, with aerodynamic lines, large rear glass, oval elements (such as the opening of the grille) and sloping shapes. From that prototype, presented in Turin in 1960, derived a small series of cars called 400 Superamerica, equipped with a 4-liter V12 engine. While Pininfarina continued to experiment with cutting-edge stylistic solutions with Superfast III and IV, the production of the 400 Superamerica, which had made its debut at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, was extremely successful. Production continued until the end of 1963.
