Gérard Welter and Michel Meunier founded WM in Beauvais (France) in 1976 with the main ambition to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The first WMs, in the GTP category, were equipped with 2.6-liter V6 turbo engines, based on the road PRV. From 1982 the team underwent a notable evolution, with the engines reaching a displacement of 2850cc, with an increase in power up to 600hp. The P82s, complying with the Group C regulations that came into force that year, showed a good level of competitiveness even if not the reliability necessary to finish long-lasting races. In any case, that year a WM recorded a top speed of over 345 km / h on the Hunaudières straight at Le Mans.
