Ferrari began negotiations with Jacky Ickx in the summer of 1967 and soon an agreement was announced with the Belgian driver, who would form the F1 team for 1968 together with Chris Amon. Franco Gozzi replaced Franco Lini as team manager. Ferrari continued to focus on the 312, whose 48-valve V12 developed around 410 horsepower by 1968. The most notable change on the 312/68 was the ailerons, which were adopted since the Belgian GP. The season was quite positive, even if Ferrari did not manage to counter Lotus in the fight for the title. Ickx won in France, while Amon got a second place in England as his best result. De Adamich flew a third 312 in South Africa, retiring; Derek Bell retired in Italy and in the USA as well. Ickx eventually finished fourth in the drivers' championship with 27 points, while Amon was 10th with 10 points. Ferrari finished fourth among the manufacturers behind Lotus, McLaren and Matra.
