For the 1969 Formula 1 season, Ferrari designer Mauro Forghieri slightly modified the 312 model, also improving the power delivery of the engine which now gave around 435 horsepower. Despite the efforts, however, the car proved to be not very competitive: Chris Amon disputed the first part of the season, obtaining a third place in the Netherlands as his best result. Pedro Rodriguez, who had started the championship with BRM, completed the season, achieving fifth place in the USA as his best result. A third official driver, Tino Brambilla, enrolled in the Monza GP, did not start the race. Ferrari finished the Constructors' World Championship in seventh place with 7 points. In the Drivers' World Championship, Amon was 12th with 4 points while Rodriguez was 13th with 3 points.
