In 1980 Ferrari presented its first turbo-powered Formula 1, the 126C. Throughout the entire 1980 season, Ferrari had continued to use the naturally aspirated 12-cylinder engine fitted to the 312 T5, but it was clear that the future passed from the supercharged engine. The new 126C made its debut at the 1980 Italian GP in Imola, where it demonstrated better performance than the 312 T5. The engine was a 1.5-liter V6, which gave around 570 horsepower. The 126C was also used in 1981, both with the KKK turbo (126CK) and with the Comprex (126CX).
