Born in 1975, the Jaguar XJ-S was long penalized by the fact that it had replaced a legend like the E-Type. Shaking off this heavy legacy, the car nevertheless had a long career. In 1983 the 225 horsepower 6-cylinder engine was adopted, whose performance was equivalent to that of the V12. From 1983 to 1988 a Targa version was produced, replaced by a real cabriolet, prepared by Karmann, very elegant and refined. A version prepared by TWR also appeared, with a 5.3 liter engine. The XJS, in the eighties, had also had a sporting use in Group A configuration, in the European tourism championship and in various national championships. The life of the XJS continued into the nineties, after the purchase of Jaguar by Ford. New engines (4000 and even 6000cc) and new configurations (2 + 2 convertible) accompanied the model until the mid-nineties. Particularly popular are the latest versions of the Celebration series (1995-1996).
