In 1964 Ford had upset the competition with the first "pony car", the Mustang. Chevrolet decided to go on the counterattack and in 1967 presented the Camaro, in direct competition with the Mustang. The first generation of the Camaro, produced until 1968, was declined in a multitude of versions, with 6-cylinder in-line or V8 engines and coupé or cabriolet bodies. The maximum power reached 425 horses. The first series Camaro also enjoyed an intense sporting career. Total production was close to 700,000 units.
