The AMX was officially presented in February 1968. If the car resembled the Javelin, it still had several specific elements: roof, grille and rear fenders. Mechanically, the AMX was equipped with a 290ci V8. With its two seats and short wheelbase, the AMX was often compared to an unsportsmanlike Corvette. The comparison was not entirely centered, because the AMX had a rather sporty character anyway: as evidenced by the 106 speed records obtained in 24 hours, at an average of 140.7 km / h. Despite this, the AMX never achieved the commercial success that the manufacturer hoped for.
