In 1955 Volkswagen presented the Karmann Ghia. In 1965 it was time to think about a new car and it was thus that Volkswagen turned to a number of collaborators to develop a modern solution starting from a common mechanical basis. Giugiaro, who at the time worked for Ghia, designed a very original coupé-cabriolet type body with a removable sheet metal roof that could be placed behind the seats. This car was never mass produced but remains a fine example of style.
