The Alfa Romeo 159 Formula 1 was the development of the 158 Alfetta that dominated the Grand Prix scenery from the end of WW2 till 1950. The 159 was a more refined, efficient and reliable car, and made its race debut at the 1950 Monza GP. Its palmares would be extremely successful with 5 wins over 8 races, 5 pole positions and 7 fastest laps. Unfortunately Alfa Romeo quitted Formula 1 at the end of 1951, even more extreme cars than the 159 being in the pipeline.
