The latest version of the legendary Fiat 500, the "R" (R for Rinnovata), was presented in 1972 and for the first time the car was fitted with a larger engine than the traditional 500cc. The 594cc unit of the new 126 was chosen. The R could be recognized for its simple design bumpers and “alloy-type” wheels. The 500R remained in production until 1975.
