The engine developed no less than 500hp, a feature that made it the most powerful atmospheric flat six in the history of the brand at the time. As standard, the 997-II GT3 RS 4.0 received the Clubsport package, which included rear roll cage, competition seats, fire extinguisher and sports seat belts. 600 numbered examples of the GT3 RS 4.0 were built.
