The idea was good but no one had thought of it yet: putting a peppery engine in a sedan with a normal appearance. Over time it would become a fashion, but in the seventies it was far from obvious. So it was that the Triumph Dolomite received a 127cc 2000cc 4 cylinder, which allowed the car to perform unthinkable for other medium sedans. The Dolomite Sprint was produced until 1980 with few modifications. The production model being plagued by several shortcomings, the Sprint had nevertheless an excellent racing career, especially on track starting from a success in the 1974 British touring car championship.
