Completely new in concept, the Hillman Avenger was marketed in 1970, under the impulse of Chrysler. It was a very conventional middle class sedan, which was equipped with different engines: 1248cc, 1295cc, 1498cc, 1600cc in various body configurations. Among the most interesting versions were the GT with twin carburettors in the late 1970s and the Tiger of 1972. In 1973 a 2-door version was introduced, adding to the 4-door sedan and the break. Restored in 1976, Avenger ended its career in 1981, taking the name Chrysler first and then Talbot.
