Equipped with the exceptional 3908cc and 670hp V8, the 488 Spider offered, for the first time on an uncovered Ferrari, the refined RHT (retractable hard top), i.e. a rigid roof that folded in the rear of the passenger compartment. The chassis section was particularly innovative, with a chassis that saw the use of no less than 11 different aluminum alloys and refined aerodynamics. Among the awards received by the 488 Spider from the international press were the Autonis Design Award of Auto Motor und Sport and the victory in the "Imported convertible" category in the competition organized by the German magazine SportAuto.
