In November 1953 the Opel Kapitan underwent a profound renewal, after the first two post-war series, more similar to the 1930s concepts. The new Kapitan adopted a "ponton" body, similar to that of the rival Mercedes 220. 2473cc, it was that of the previous Kapitan, but with ten more horses (68 against 58). From October 1954 the power increased to 71 horsepower. Production continued until July 1955 when further aesthetic and mechanical modifications were introduced, while leaving the essential engine characteristics unaltered.
