Starting in the mid-1960s, Toyota increasingly expanded its range of passenger cars. In 1970, Toyota, after taking over the Hino brand in 1966, was already the largest Japanese manufacturer, albeit undermined by Nissan. The second generation Corona, in the Sedan De Luxe configuration, had a 1490cc 4-cylinder engine and 82 horsepower. A 1591cc engine with 92 horsepower was also available.
