The Delage D8 / D8S was the right car but at the wrong time: its release in 1929, on the eve of the Wall Street crash, severely limited its sales. The number 8 of the acronym indicated the 8-cylinder in-line engine, which produced up to 102 horsepower in some versions. The Delage represented a valid alternative to the Rolls. Production ceased in 1933.
