After badly losing the 1974 world title to Emerson Fittipaldi, Ferrari reorganized itself very efficiently for the 1975 championship. Lauda and Regazzoni being confirmed, the new car was the 312 T with the transverse gearbox, which proved to be very competitive. Ferrari competed in the first two races of the year with the 1974 312 B3; the 312 T was ready for the third Grand Prix in South Africa. After some uncertainty, Lauda was the protagonist of exceptional performances with a particularly bright central part of the season. Even his teammate Regazzoni managed to take away many satisfactions, winning the Monza GP. In the drivers' classification, Lauda preceded Fittipaldi (McLaren), Reutemann (Brabham), Hunt (Hesketh) and Regazzoni. Ferrari won the manufacturers' championship ahead of Brabham and McLaren.

In the year of Niki Lauda's first world title, his teammate, the Swiss Clay Regazzoni obtained a historic victory in the final GP of the season, in Monza, obtaining a second success on Italian soil after that of 1970, which had been the his first year of F.1, already in Ferrari. In 1975 Regazzoni scored 25 points, finishing fifth in the final ranking.
