Developed from the 16S, the Clio Williams, launched in 1993, had two objectives: to serve as the basis for homologation in rallies and to celebrate Renault’s Formula 1 success with the Williams team. The Clio Williams suddenly blanched all existing GTIs. The 2000cc engine, derived from the F block, was robust and powerful (150 horsepower). The car was marketed only in blue with gold rims and became a true myth of the nineties. In production from 1993 to 1994, the Clio Williams first came out in a limited and numbered series (phase 1), then was integrated into the Clio phase 2 range. A phase 3 (1995-1996) in blue Méthyl was destined for export. In total there were about 12100 units built.
