The Rally 037 was born on the basis of the Group B regulation in force since the beginning of 1982. To be homologated in Group B, the cars had to be produced in at least 200 specimens with 2-seater configuration. For the rallies, the Fiat Group considered various possibilities and in the end the decision was to rely on the Lancia Beta Montecarlo. Thus the SE037 project was born. The 037 was entered in rallies from 1983, continuing its career until 1985 and beyond with private teams. A couple of evolutions of the car were developed, in addition to some experimental configurations never used in official competitions, such as the turbo volumetric (in preparation for the SE038 project of the S4), the 4-wheel drive and the Evo3.
