The Ferrari 330 P2, together with the 275 P2 model, represented the natural evolution of the prototypes used during the 1964 season. The engine of the 330 P2 was the already well-known 3967cc V12, which developed around 410 horsepower. The biggest innovations were in the frame, which was built with tubular trusses with riveted aluminum panels, a solution that allowed to reduce weight. Despite the competition from Ford, the Ferrari 330 P2 managed to establish itself in important races such as the 1000km of the Nurburgring with Surtees and Scarfiotti. This win, and others with the 275 P and 250 LM, allowed Ferrari to win the 1965 sports constructors' championship.
The 1965 Nurburgring 1000km victory remains a "classic" victory in the history of Ferrari. The 330 P2 chassis 0828 achieved success with John Surtees and Ludovico Scarfiotti, completing 44 laps in 6h53'5"4 at an average speed of 145.775 km/h. Ferrari number 1 had also scored pole position with a time of 8'53"1.
