For the 1965 endurance season, Alpine Renault thought of recycling the M63 and M64 of 1963-1964, developing the M65, on which the aerodynamics and rear suspension were particularly developed. The results did not live up to expectations: after the Targa Florio, in which the M65 was destroyed in an accident, two other M65 with 1300cc Gordini engine participated in Le Mans but the results were negative, as were those of the other Alpines registered: two M64s, an M63B (i.e. an M63 with M64 body) and an A110 with M64 body.
